Written by Stirling Dynamics | 18 November 2021

The customer required a replica CH-53K cockpit system for use in a development and test simulator to supplement aircraft testing. The controls needed to replicate the flightworthy controls in every way.  Operating with an advanced fly-by-wire and active pilot controls the CH-53K demonstrates unique cockpit ergonomics and superior handling.  NAVAIR selected Stirling to provide the best solution to replicate the active pilot controls in full form, fit and function.

Our existing simulator product range, which is fully active, compact, and linkable, without mechanical linkages, was the perfect starting point to develop a bespoke cockpit set for a CH-53K simulator. We worked with the customer to define their requirements and using a systems engineering approach, provided them with a high-fidelity, bespoke cockpit set.

The final CH-53K controls featured all the benefits of our bespoke active control products: Linked tandem controls as standard and user-configurable to match the aircraft equipment characteristics. Currently, the controls are performing reliably in the field and providing carefree operation.
