Regional Aircraft Design Support - Stirling Dynamics

Written by Stirling Dynamics | 18 November 2021

To achieve delivery of the company’s first regional jet aircraft programme, Mitsubishi Aerospace Corporation (MitAC) turned to Stirling for our specialist support. The range of skills required to service the aircraft design were not available within the company or even within the region, so external expertise was required to progress the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), latterly known as the Mitsubishi Spacejet.

Using a flexible combination of in-country and UK-based engineers, we developed an integrated simulation model (including the flight control system), independent evaluation of the landing gear shimmy characteristics, landing gear systems analysis (including braking, steering, retraction and extension systems), safety analysis support covering ATA32(LG) and ATA 29, and support to MitAC’s EASA Certification Review.

The Spacejet M90 conducted its first test flight successfully in March 2020 and expected to be operational in 2022. Our work has provided a significant benefit to programme, which was acknowledged by the client. Masahito Nakano of the Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation commented:

MRJ has a lot of support from Stirling Dynamics regarding various areas, such as modelling, system analysis, safety analysis and flight test support. We are very happy with this.
