What do submarines and aircraft have in common? More than you might think. In our Simulation & Controls team, we bring together the precision of marine engineering and the ambition of aerospace innovation to solve some of the most complex control challenges in engineering today.
Life in our Simulation & Controls team is dynamic, collaborative, and deeply technical. Let’s have a look at how we work!
Our team is made up of modelling and control specialists who operate across diverse business areas. We support everything from vehicle-level simulation to equipment-level modelling, and we develop control software deployed on both aerospace and marine platforms, as well as our own simulation products.
Our engineers use a wide range of simulation tools, including Simulink and MATLAB, to support design and analysis activities, and ensure our systems behave exactly as they should in the real world.
However, it is not just about the tech. It is about understanding the physics, solving real-world problems, and collaborating across disciplines to bring complex systems to life. We partner with some of the world’s largest aerospace and defence companies, as well as emerging innovators developing the latest technologies.
A typical day for the team is a blend of technical depth, active problem-solving, and supportive collaboration. Our team members take ownership of tasks, propose solutions and drive innovation. One of the most rewarding aspects of the role is the opportunity to solve problems independently. At the same time, collaboration remains central to our workflow, with senior and more experienced engineers generously sharing their knowledge and offering guidance to junior team members.
Jasper Willcox, one of our engineers in the team, shared what a typical day working in the team looks like, "A typical day for me starts with a morning meeting to review the previous day's progress and discuss any issues we have encountered. After that, I focus on my assigned tasks within the current project, working primarily in MATLAB and Simulink to check, investigate, and improve the models. Throughout the day, I collaborate with more experienced colleagues in the office for advice and support."
Life in our team is filled with cross-functional collaboration, from diving into technical details with fellow engineers to refine designs, to working closely with System & Safety, Electronic Hardware, and Software teams to ensure seamless integration. We work on various projects to help our clients enhance development efficiency, improve system reliability, and meet regulatory standards with confidence.
We’re a team of like-minded engineers who love what we do. The team have shared their thoughts on what they love about their work:
Chris Bridge, our Technical Manager in the Simulation & Controls Team, shared his forward-thinking goals for what the team aims to achieve, "We aim to be a strategic partner in model-based design, working closely with clients to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions. As a recognised leader in the market, we specialise in both marine and aerospace sectors, bringing deep technical expertise and industry insight to every project. Our goal is to support clients not just as a supplier, but as a trusted collaborator driving excellence and efficiency in complex engineering environments."
Our work directly influences the safety, performance, and reliability of aerospace and marine systems. It’s high-stakes, high-impact engineering, and we take pride in doing it well.
Whether you're refining a control algorithm or helping a junior engineer understand a modelling challenge, your contributions here make a real difference.
