What you can expect from the Scheme
How can Stirling Dynamics support your career growth
It's important that we're continually investing in the future of the company. Stirling Dynamics grows with its people, and bringing talented graduate engineers into the business allows us to support their development while helping them grow into the skills and capabilities that the company needs for the future. Here's how Stirling Dynamics can support your career development.
Rotate Across Engineering Functions
Successful candidates will move between different departments, disciplines, and industry sectors, gaining experience in various areas of engineering.
They also undertake an "out-of-engineering" placement, which could include project management, business management, or business development.
This approach provides a well-rounded introduction to the industry and exposure to different areas. This helps graduates discover where their interests and strengths truly lie.
Explore Diverse Engineering Expertise & Industry
One of Stirling Dynamics' greatest strengths is the breadth and diversity of the work we do. We support projects across aerospace, marine, simulation, defence, civil aviation, and emerging technology sectors.
Alongside our consultancy services, we develop our own products, including advanced training simulators and flightworthy systems.
From eVTOL aircraft and helicopters to fixed-wing aircraft, submarines, and simulation systems, graduates are exposed to an exceptionally broad range of platforms and technologies, making Stirling Dynamics a truly unique place to begin an engineering career.
Real-World Projects & Innovation
We work with both innovative start-ups and established OEMs, giving our engineers exposure to a wide range of customers and challenges.
Graduates may work with innovative start-ups and technology disruptors exploring areas such as hybrid-electric propulsion, hydrogen-powered aircraft, and advanced actuation technologies.
At the same time, they may support programmes for major aerospace OEMs and established industry leaders, gaining insight into both emerging and traditional engineering environments.
Develop Technical & Professional Skills
Alongside on-the-job learning, we look for opportunities to support broader training and development. This includes technical development, software training, report writing, presentation skills, and broader professional development activities.
We aim to provide graduates with exposure to a wide variety of experiences that help them build confidence and capability, allowing them to broaden their horizons and explore the many possibilities available throughout their careers.
Mentorship & Team Support
Every graduate is assigned a dedicated line manager who remains with them throughout the two-year programme. This provides continuity and ensures they have consistent support for their development journey.
Within each placement, graduates are also assigned a mentor or buddy who can help them integrate into the team, provide day-to-day guidance, and support both technical and professional growth.
We've been running graduate programmes for several years and have a strong network of early-career engineers who can provide support and guidance.
Professional Registration & Chartership Support
Stirling Dynamics has a number of Chartered Engineers across different professional institutions, providing access to a broad support network. We sponsor professional memberships and Chartership applications, and graduates can receive guidance throughout the process.
We also have a dedicated engineer responsible for supporting colleagues on their Chartership journey, helping them understand requirements and build the evidence needed to achieve professional registration.

Career development and experiences at Stirling Dynamics
Sophie Butel (Graduate Engineer, Project & Business Management rotation)
I'm Sophie. I'm currently on the Project & Business Management rotation and have previously completed the Modelling & Simulation rotation before that.
I've been able to experience the engineering projects and the technical side of things and the problem solvers in that aspect, but also been able to experience the project side and see how it all clicks together. I think that's been really valuable to get a full experience of how all projects from start to end work, and with the other rotations, I'll get to develop other skills as well.
I was awarded the Employee Recognition Award for the last quarter so I think that's probably my biggest achievement from my time at Stirling so far, it's something I'm really proud of, and it's really nice to have my work recognised by my colleagues.
I have really enjoyed this rotation. I think being able to talk to the customers and develop my confidence in that has really helped. I've really enjoyed doing the business improvement activities as well.
Joseph Hancock (Graduate Engineer, Modelling & Simulation Rotation)
My name's Joseph Hancock. I'm just entering my second year on the graduate rotation scheme here at Stirling Dynamics. I started in Mechanical Design and I'm currently in Modelling & Simulation.
As part of my last rotation in Mechanical Design, I helped to deliver the first prototype of a new product that we've been developing, which is one of the industry's leading simulator products. I was given a lot of responsibility and was highly involved in the actual physical building and developing of this prototype. We managed to get it to I/ITSEC, the world's largest modeling, simulation, and training event. It received really good feedback from everyone who tried it, so it was super rewarding.
One of the biggest surprises for me is how accessible so many people in the company have been to me. The projects that I've been working on have required so much different fields coming together. So I've had the visibility of a lot of different people around the company, they have been really helpful and super nice to work with.
Joe Chapman (Graduate Engineer, Simulation & Control Team, Member of the Employee Engagement Forum)
I'm Joe Chapman. I work in the Simulation & Control team. Being an engineer working on areas such as software architecture, I'm also a member of the Employee Engagement Forum at Stirling Dynamics. The forum provides a platform for employees to raise ideas and suggestions for discussion with our HR team. We then work together to organise events and bring those ideas to life for everyone, which is good fun.
I'd say our company culture is friendly. When you explain a problem out loud to somebody else, it helps you rationalise your own thought process. I find that talking through my own problems with someone else often helps me see them more clearly. At the same time, listening to someone with more experience explain their challenges helps you learn from them. It's also rewarding when your manager comes to you with a problem and, because it's something you're particularly good at, you're able to solve it on the spot.
