Life At Stirling Dynamics
Be part of a team driving innovation and shaping the future of engineering
Collaborate, innovate, and make a real impact across exciting projects in aerospace, marine, and advanced air mobility
A culture we are proud of
We pride ourselves on our company culture. Employees typically stay at Stirling Dynamics for a long time. A big part of this is the interesting projects to get involved in and the development opportunities, but we know that the culture is a significant contributing factor.
Flexibility
Flexibility is hugely important to us at Stirling. We want to create an environment in which our employees can stay for a long time, continue to progress but importantly also thrive, throughout every stage of their life. We recognise that people’s priorities and needs adapt as their personal lives change and our focus on flexibility allows employees to continue to juggle their work/life balance in a way that works for them.
Core hours
Our core hours are 10am to 3pm Monday to Thursday, and 10am to 12.30pm on Fridays, this gives our employees the flexibility to drop off and pick up their children from school and manage any other caring needs they may have alongside their work.
Annual leave
Employees start with 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), and this goes up to 30 days with long service. They can also buy or sell up to 5 days annual leave and to provide additional flexibility, employees can book their annual leave by the hour. This means if an employee wants to attend their child’s sports day or school presentation, they don’t need to use a whole day’s annual leave allowance. Or if someone wants to take a Friday off for a long-weekend, they can flex their hours in the week and just use 2.5 hours of annual leave.
Agile approach
Our smaller size allows us to be more agile and adapt to employee’s needs.
Flexible working adjustments
Employees can request flexible working adjustments from day 1 of their employment, and a lot of our employees have changed their contracted hours multiple times during their time with us so that they can adapt their work life to fit their current stage in their persona life.
Hybrid working
Employees are able to work part of their time from home, and where possible, some roles can be performed fully remote.

Employee Engagement Forum
Our EEF meets every 2 months to discuss employee suggestions and feedback. Employees truly have a voice at Stirling and due to the smaller size of the company, we are often able to introduce changes more quickly than would be possible at larger companies. These changes can be small but impactful changes, through to bigger changes such as new employee benefits or ways of doing things.
Open environment
It’s very important to us that employees feel like they can go up to anyone in the office to ask a question and our employees are extremely supportive of each other. We have an open plan office to support this, with breakout areas and meeting rooms for when a quiet environment is required. The only private office is for our Vice President but his door is always open and he always appreciates people popping in for a chat or to ask a question.

Clubs
Our employees enjoy getting together outside of work and despite our smaller company size, we have a number of groups and encourage employees to set up new ones if they have a hobby they would like to share with their colleagues.
5-aside
Our 5 a side team play every week – it’s open to everyone and even those who don’t play enjoy reading the match reports which are circulated.
Cycling club
We have a lot of keen cyclists at Stirling and so our employees created a cycling club where they can share tips or organise after work cycle rides. Our employees also often get together to take part in local bike rides such as Bristol to Bath or the Tour de Bristol. We are very fortunate to have lots of cycling paths near our office so employees are encouraged to choose this more environmentally friendly way of travelling to work; we share cycling routes on our Intranet page, offer an extensive cycle to work scheme, and have great facilities in the office including showers, changing rooms, a hair drying and ironing station and a drying cupboard.
Climbing and bouldering
Bristol has a number of climbing centres so unsurprisingly bouldering and climbing is a popular sport amongst our employees. We have a bouldering group who get together after work for after work climbing sessions.
Touch rugby
Touch rugby has been a popular sport amongst Stirling employees for many yeas now, and there is an expanded group of current employees, previous employees and friends of employees who often get together on a Saturday morning for a touch rugby session on the Clifton Downs followed by a barbecue (if the English weather also choose to play ball). For the last few years, Stirling has paid for a Stirling team to enter the local touch rugby tournament which has been great fun.
Crafting
Crafting – we have a lot of keen crafters at Stirling who often get together to run craft projects in aid of our Charity of the Year. We’ve had some great crafted gifts come from these sessions, including dog toys to donate to the Bristol Animal Rescue Centre and Christmas decorations.
Women@Expleo
We want all of our employees to feel empowered, listened to and supported. We are part of the Women@Expleo group which is a fantastic and supportive environment, running information sessions for all employees as well as women only sessions where they can discuss a variety of topics in an informal and safe environment.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Conducting our business ethically and sustainably
Stirling Dynamics’ CSR activities focus on three key areas: inspiring people to consider a career in engineering (especially under-represented groups), supporting our local community and reducing our environmental impact. As well as incorporating our CSR aims into our business decisions, we raise awareness and promote participation in related initiatives amongst our employees and those in our supply chain.
